Gordon Lightfoot has said he feels “fine”, despite reports on Thursday that he had died.
The 71-year-old Canadian singer's supposed death was widely circulated by news and TV outlets yesterday after a prank message was posted on Twitter.
Lightfoot, whose most recognised recordings include 'Sundown' and 'Carefree Highway', was driving when he heard the news of his apparent death on the radio.
Speaking to Tornoto's CP24 to clarify that he was still alive, Lightfoot said: "Everything is good.
"I don't know where it come from, it seems like a bit of a hoax. I was quite surprised to hear it myself... I feel fine."
Lightfoot has been credited with defining folk-pop music in the 1960s and 1970s, and has been named by Bob Dylan as one of his favourite songwriters.
