Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has praised the “staggering” line-up for this summer’s festival.

The 40ther anniversary edition of the event will be headlined by Muse, U2 and Stevie Wonder.

Other acts on the bill include LCD Soundsystem, Snoop Dogg, Dizzee Rascal and Willie Nelson.

Eavis, who co-founded Glastonbury, said: "This is it. The most staggering line up to match the 40-year reputation of the festival."

The festival takes place from June 25-27 in Somerset. Tickets have sold out.

The very first Glastonbury festival took place on September 19, 1970 - poignantly a day after Jimi Hendrix died. 34-year-old dairy farmer Michael Eavis was inspired to put on his own event after visiting the Blues Festival in Bath a year earlier. The one day extravaganza was attended by 1,500 people who each paid £1 a ticket - the price poignantly included free milk from the farm. Headlined by Marc Bolan's Tyrannosaurus Rex, other performers included Keith Christmas and Al Stewart.

Too many small stage highlights, not enough big draws on Pyramid and Other. Sunday looking like the best day - I'm thinking Tunng, TNPs, Holy F--k, The Drums, Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, LCD Soundsystem, Stevie, Magnetic Man.

I'm disappointed that there aren't more oldies. We were told that there would be acts from the last 40 years but where are they? I'm sure this is a great line up for young people but this is not what was promised............

Very disapointed with the line up,its a joke every other festival has a better line up this year,not what the people was promised,how Michael Eavis can call it a staggering line-up its crazy,lots and lots of people feel let down
