Mercury Prize 2010 Nominations Divide Music Fans

Music fans have been left divided by the nominations for this year's Mercury Prize.

The twelve-strong shortlist, which was announced in London today (July 21), includes albums by The xx, Wild Beasts and Dizzee Rascal.

Villagers, Paul Weller, Corinne Bailey Rae and Bify Clyro are also in contention for the prize.

Getting in touch with Gigwise via Twitter, @christog and @laurababbili  were both happened that The xx's self-titled debut got a nod.

But many other readers have been left disappointed by the artists who were omitted.

@pureglenn2k said: “Would have liked to see Exit Calm nominated, but would like Wild Beasts to win!”

@Lozzyyk said: “Outrage that Ellie Goudling hasn't beend nominated for 'Lights'.”

And @mandapen said: “dull = mercury nominations.”
