Metric have said it was “amazing” to work on the new Edgar Wright movie, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

The band contributed the song 'Black Sheep' for the movie, which is based on the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley

Guitarist Jimmy Shaw told Gigwise they were approached about the project by Wright and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, who wrote the score for the film.

“They were curious about what we had and they described what they were looking for in a song,” Shaw said.

“And there was a song that we made in the process of making [our 2009 album] 'Fantasies' that I was feeling at the time shouldn't be on the record – it just didn't feel right to me – and I remember Nigel saying that he wanted it to be like Metric, but more Metric.”

Singer Emily Haines added: “[It's] like a caricature. It's based on this graphic novel, so everything's exaggerated in comicbook style, which I love.”

Haines said working on Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World had capped an "amazing" period for the band, who also featured on the score for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

“It's a really cool moment to walk into your studio and see Nigel Godrich sitting in your studio,” she said.

“We're aware of the scale that we're in – we're a small band that's done well at being ourselves – but this year has been really amazing for moments like that.

“We built our own studio, and there's Nigel, it's like, 'Wow, that's really cool, that's someone we really look up to.' And Edgar Wright too.”

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Anna Kendrick, and is released on August 13.

The soundtrack for the movie is available now.
