Reading festival organisers have taken measures to protect the festival site from flooding.

It follows two days of heavy showers, which have saturated the ground ahead of the event’s start later today (August 27)

The Environment Agency has pumped nearly a quarter of a million gallons of water from the site since Wednesday lunchtime.

They have also lowered the levels of The River Thames adjacent to the Reading Festival site.

Festival director Melvin Benn would enable festival-goers “to have a fantastic weekend”.

He added: “We have obviously experienced heavy rainfall over the past couple of days but the rest of the weekend is looking good - here's to another great Reading weekend!"

A Met Office spokeswoman told Gigwise that showers would die out on Friday and it will remain mostly dry and bright for the rest of the weekend. Temperatures will reach highs of 20/21 degrees.

The festival, which runs until Sunday (August 29), will be headlined by Guns N' Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink-182.

Other acts on the bill include Klaxons, The Libertines, The Cribs, Paramore, Weezer and Lostprophets.

Gigwise will be coming live from the festival throughout the weekend so stay tuned for all the latest news, gig reports and photos.
