Ed Miliband launched his new role as leader of the Labour party with the help of Kings of Leon and Vampire Weekend in Manchester today (September 28).
The politician's first major speech as leader at the party's annual conference was bookended by songs from both bands.
As he took to the stage, a packed crowd at the Manchester Central venue were treated to Vampire Weekend's 'A-Punk'.
And Miliband called upon Kings Of Leon's 'Use Somebody' as he concluded his hour-long address.
The Scotsman described the politician's song choices as an attempt to “get down with the kids”.
Miliband praised the party's recent achievements during his speech, but said that in order to regain power it needed to “change”.
Politicians' song choices at major political events have long come under public scrutiny.
In April, Keane hit out at the Conservative Party when they used the band's song 'Everybody's Changing' during the General Election campaign.
