Alan Partridge, the fictional television and radio presenter played by Steve Coogan, has mocked Kasabian.
Singer Tom Meighan said Coogan left a message on his answer phone criticising the group for naming themselves after getaway driver of serial killer Charles Manson, Linda Kasabian.
The star said he had kept the messasge but was concerned it might be used in the show's forthcoming comeback series.
"It was the most surreal thing ever,” Meighan told The Sun. “I was checking my voicemails and they were all pretty mundane... then Alan Partridge piped up.
"He was having a right go at us, saying we were setting a bad example to kids for naming the band after Linda Kasabian.
"It was hysterical. I love Steve Coogan, he's a funny man.”
Linda Kasabian was an accomplice to American criminal Manson, whose 'Manson Family' was linked to a host of murders in the later 1960s.
The band Kasabian are currently on hiatus before starting work on their next studio album.
