Jay-Z has backed Kanye West following the renewed coverage of the rapper’s controversial comments about Hurricane Katrina.

In 2005, West attacked then president George Bush’s slow response to the crisis, claiming it was because he didn’t “care about black people”.

The rapper’s remarks came under the spotlight again this month after Bush labelled the incident “one of the most disgusting moments in my presidency” in his memoirs.

In a radio interview with Howard Stern, Jay-Z defended West’s original comments.

"It was bad timing, but it was absolutely an honest emotion. We all felt like that,” he said.

“We didn't feel like Katrina was a natural disaster; we felt like it was an attack on black people. All you saw was black people on the roof with 'help' signs. White people felt like that."

West and Bush have since settled their differences over the original incident.

Meanwhile, the rapper releases his new album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ on November 22.
