Green Day have begun work on their new album, singer Billie Joe Armstrong has confirmed.
In a message on Twitter, the singer said they had “a tonne of new songs”, adding that they were “fresh and hi-energy”.
Armstrong also told his followers that it “felt great” to be back in the studio with his bandmates.
Green Day's last album '21st Century Breakdown' was released in 2009.
The singer recently appeared in the Broadway musical American Idiot, which told the story of Green Day's rise to fame. It is due to go on tour across America shortly.
