Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, has been jailed for 16 months for violent disorder during last year's protests against student tuition fees.
In May, the 21-year-old Cambridge University student pleaded guilty to Violent Disorder after he was seen hanging from a Union Jack flag on the Cenotaph in London.
He was also found to have leapt on the bonnet of a car which formed part of a royal convoy carrying Prince Charles.
As he was sentenced, Judge Nicholas Price QC said Gilmour's behaviour at the Cenotaph was "deeply offensive", reports Sky News.
He added that to "ignore what you did would be wrong, but to sentence you on it would be improper".
"What you did went far, far beyond proper protest."
Gilmour was joined for the verdict at Kingston Crown Court court today (July 15) by his father and mother.
