Bette Midler Slams 'Copycat' Lady Gaga Over Wheelchair Stunt

Bette Midler has criticised Lady Gaga's new mermaid alter ego Yuyi, who is confined to a wheelchair.

The singer debuted her new character during a performance in Sydney last week.

In a message on Twitter, Midler accused Lady Gaga's of stealing her idea from her own wheelchair-bound alter ego Delores Delago, who she first performed as in 1978.

She wrote: "Dear @ladygaga Ive been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits-mermaid's mine."

Lady Gaga did not respond to the message, but Midler appeared less concerned in a later tweet, saying “fabulous mermaids can coexist”.
