Manic Street Preachers have slammed Arctic Monkeys as boring.

In an interview with Q magazine, bassist Nicky Wire hit out at the Sheffield band after being asked to name a classic album whose appeal eludes him.

"Arctic Monkeys. I never understood that. They're the flattest, most linear thing ever,” he said. “And it's degenerated much like The Strokes into cataclysmic boredom"

Singer James Dean Bradfield was asked the same question and responded with Coldplay producer and former Roxy Music star Brian Eno.

"Anything Brian Eno has to say or do these days I f*cking detest with every atom of my being,” he said.

“He's the Nick Clegg of the music world. He's a bad motivational speaker. He's an empty vessel who spouts bullsh*t and means nothing"

Manic Street Preachers are set to release their new singles collection next month.
