Jay-Z and his mother Gloria Carter staged a special fundraising carnival for their organisation, The Shawn Carter Foundation, in New York last night (September 29).
The pair posed for pictures on the red carpet at Hudson River Park, before meeting guests.
The event, dubbed Making Ordinary Extraordinary, was aimed at raising money for college scholarships.
Jay-Z said: "Just providing opportunity and seeing what people do with that opportunity. If you want to go further and you want to further your education, just giving someone that extra little push [so] that maybe you'll turn out to be someone special.”

The rapper and his mother opened the foundation on 2002 to help those facing socioeconomic issues to continue their education.
Jay-Z paid tribute to his mum and said was helping her to spread the foundation's message.
“It's a real grassroots thing that she's been doing on her own, and I'm just really trying to help her expand it so we can help more people,” he told MTV News.
