Russell Brand Files For Divorce From Katy Perry

Russell Brand has announced that he is filing for divorce from wife Katy Perry.

According to US website TMZ, the actor and comedian filed for divorce yesterday (December 30), blaming ''irreconcilable differences' on the split.

Online rumours that the pair were parting ways increased earlier this week after Brand and Perry spent Christmas apart from each other, pictured without their wedding rings.

Brand has issued a statement, which says: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Last month Katy Perry took to Twitter to slam any rumours of divorce, she wrote: Perry writes, "First I'm pregnant & then I'm divorced. What am I All My Children?! Erica Kane... pshhh... If I had a dollar for every time..."

Perry recently admitted that she was keen to start a family one day, but for the moment was happy being young and having fun: 'I would love to have children. That's one of the reasons you get married.'

'[But] I still love drinking alcohol so not yet.'

The couple, who met back in 2009, tied the knot at the Aman-e-Khas luxury resort near the Ranthambhore in October 2010.

Perry and Brand began dating shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, which the comedian hosted.
