Katy Perry Pulls Out Of People's Choice Awards Following Split With Russell Brand

Katy Perry has pulled out of the the People's Choice Awards in the US tonight (January 11), following her recent split with husband Russell Brand.

The singer was due to attend the ceremony, where she is up for awards including Favourite Female Artist and Favourite Song Of The Year.

Perry broke the news to fans over Twitter:

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed.

Perry who reportedly wanted Brand to file for the divorce is said to currently be writing new material inspired around the split.

The pair began dating shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, which the comedian hosted.
