Coldplay and Mumford and Sons are set  to appear at the Amnesty International Secret Policeman's Ball fundraiser.

Taking place on March 4, this will be the first time the event has been hosted in New York. Russell Brand, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will also appear at Radio City Music Hall, reports the Washington Post.

The last event of it kind was held in London, in 2008. The event was started in 1978, and hosted acts such as; Bono, Sting and Eric Clapton.

Amnesty International spokesman Andy Hackman said: "For us, it's iconic and a very special thing, and has provided the opportunity to really celebrate the presence of freedom of expression and free speech, and how we can move people and how we can bring people together, and just how powerful that is."

"That phrase 'human rights' has lost meaning in some ways. That's why we want to demonstrate the power and the joy that free speech can bring to us all... It's really just using these amazing talented people to demonstrate the power, what a force of good free speech is."
