Amy Winehouse's Family Seeking Advice Over 'Illegal' Inquest Claims

Amy Winehouse's family are seeking advice after it emerged yesterday (February 1) that the coroner at their daughter's inquest was not fully qualified.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway, who conducted the inquest into Amy Winehous'e death last October, resigned from her job in November, one month after completing the investigation because she did not meet the strict rules governing the appointment of coroners.

Rules clearly state that Greenaway should have been a solicitor in the Law Society for at least five years, but she had only been part of the organisation for two-and-a-half.

This new information could now mean that thirty of the inquests she worked on, including Winehouse's, could be declared illegal.

Learning of the news, Mitch Winehouse told The Sun: "We were very shocked when we were informed the coroner was not suitably qualified. It's hard to believe her credentials weren't fully checked. You'd assume this sort of thing can't happen.

"We've been informed the coroner was taking guidance from more experienced professionals and the verdict doesn't appear to be in any doubt, but it's upsetting to have to go through all this again. We just hope that matters can be resolved soon.

Amy Winehouse Tribute Concert Planned

Suzanne Greenway, ruled at the inquest that: "She [Winehouse] had consumed sufficient alcohol at 416mg per decilitre (of blood) and the unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death."

Amy Winehouse was found dead at her flat in Camden, North London on July 23. She was 27.
