The Maccabees: Our Label Were Worried About 'Given To The Wild'

The Maccabees have revealed that their label was worried about releasing their latest album 'Given To The Wild'.

The album, released last month, caused concern at their label Fiction Records after its content was deemed it too experimental to become a commercial success.

Guitarist Felix White told the Daily Star: "Fiction were really worried. They thought we were making a concept album. They were talking about a low-key release. They thought it was going to be this lo-fi, weird-sounding record."

He added: "We didn't think it would get near the Top 10, let alone nearly hit number one. It's funny and surreal seeing our name next to Bruno Mars and Adele in the chart.

"As a Fulham fan, I'm used to last-minute defeats. That sinking feeling when we lost out so late was very familiar."

Meanwhile, The Maccabees have announced details of a UK tour, set to take place later this year.

Their 12-date tour will kick off at Edinburgh HMV Picture House on March 5 and concludes at Cambridge Corn Exchange on the 19.
