The Vaccines Beat Noel Gallagher, Ed Sheeran To Claim XFM's 'New Music Award'

The Vaccines have taken home this year's XFM's New Music Award.

The award, which was given to the best debut album released by a British artist in 2011,  was chosen by a panel of judges that included Muse drummer Dominic Howard, Editors' frontman Tom Smith, Noah &The Whale singer Charlie Fink and former New Order bassist Peter Hook.

Competition for the award came from Beady Eye, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Miles Kane, Chapel Club, James Blake, Ben Howard, Ed Sheeran, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Scroobius Pip.

Meanwhile, The Vaccines have defended the future of guitar music following recent comments made by record boss Jim Chancellor.

In an interview with Newsbeat, Jim Chancellor, managing director of Fiction Records, said his music competitors are 'scared' to take on rock bands to their rosters.

The Vaccines, who released their debut album last year, have said guitar shouldn't be based on their ranking in the charts.

''There's been so much about the death of the guitar band, but so many great guitar records are being made at the moment," said frontman Justin Young.
