The Vaccines Defend Rock N' Roll Music: Great Guitar Records Are Being Made

The Vaccines have defended the future of guitar music following recent comments made by record boss Jim Chancellor.

In an interview with Newsbeat, Jim Chancellor, managing director of Fiction Records, said his music competitors are 'scared' to take on rock bands to their rosters.

The Vaccines, who released their debut album last year, have said guitar shouldn't be based on their ranking in the charts.
There's been so much about the death of the guitar band, but so many great guitar records are being made at the moment," said frontman Justin Young.

"It really annoyed me. What is a guitar record? So many of the important guitar bands of the 80s had no impact on the charts but their legacy has been so important.

"I think we just need to shut up now. It's boring."

In recent weeks a number of musicians including Kasabian and Noel Gallgher have spoken about the lack of rock n' roll bands in today's charts.

Kasabain said that they think the charts are 'overrun by pop' and that they are one of the only UK acts taking a risk with songs.

Singer Meighan said: There's a rock 'n' roll drought at the moment, so I'm glad we're here. People are frightened of making records that sound good on the radio.

Pizzorno added: "We've been overrun by pop and I hate that indie attitude. Life's too short to give a s*it'.
