Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse were honoured at this year's BRIT Awards.
The singers were each remembered in a special montage video charting their musical careers.
"She not only inspired the world with her incredible voice but also influenced many of the artists here with us tonight," James said of Whitney Houston.
Amy Winehouse, who passed away last July, was also honoured at the ceremony.

Adele, Ed Sheeran and Blur dominated this year’s BRIT Awards.

The ceremony, which took place at the O2 Arena in London tonight (February 21), saw Adele collect the prestigious Album of The Year Award.
The singer's second album '21' beat off competition from the likes of PJ Harvey, Ed Sheeran, Florence And The Machine and Coldplay.
