The Stone Roses' Mani quits alcohol before comeback

Stone Roses' Mani has revealed he's quitting alcohol ahead of the band's Manchester reunion shows to ensure the band's comeback doesn't turn into a three-day bender.

The bass player said that he decided to stay on the wagon after he nearly missed Primal Scream, his former band, perform at Reading and Leeds festival due to being too intoxicated.

"It ended with me getting arrested on the day of the gig', Mani told The Sun newspaper. "After a lie-down in the cell I was driven to the gig in cuffs. They came off just before we went on."

As previously reported on Gigwise, The Stone Roses have signed two record deals ahead of their reunion shows.

Universal Records have signed the band in the UK and worldwide, while Columbia, owned by Sony, have contracted the band in the US.

The move is set to make the band millions, after Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni announced details of three homecoming shows at Manchester's Heaton Park in June, with further festivals appearances at V, T In The Park and Spain's Benicassim.
