Arctic Monkeys' drummer confirms new material

Arctic Monkey's drummer Matt Helders has confirmed the UK indie stars are working on new material while on tour in the US.

The band are currently mid-way through an American tour alongside The Black Keys, and while Helders revealed in an interview that the band had recorded nothing official, there were new tracks they were 'playing around with'.

"We haven’t really started writing officially, a record or anything, but there's a few things we’re playing around with in sound checks," Helders said in an interview with Paste magazine.

He also added that their laidback approach to new material was how recent release 'R U Mine' came to light.

"The idea was sometimes when were messing around driving we film ourselves singing stupid songs on the radio, people do that I think, and in a way we wanted to do a video we could put out straight away without any promotion which is what we did with 'Brick By Brick'," he added. "We didn’t tell anybody we were releasing it, we just put it out. In a way, that worked better than any other video we’ve put out. And 'R U Mine?' more people have watched that than any other video on this album. So obviously it worked."

Arctic Monkey's recently revealed that a new track, 'Electricity' would be released as a new b-side to 'R U Mine' on limited edition purple vinyl.
