Jack Black: 'No one will be as big as Nirvana'

Tenacious D frontman Jack Black has revealed he feels Nirvana were the last huge rock band.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Black says he is uninspired with the absence of good rock bands today and since Kurt Cobain, no one fits the bill.

"I contend that the last band to really have that kind of power, I'm going to say, was Nirvana. Who since Nirvana has been as big as Nirvana, in that way?"

He added: “When you think about rock at its origin, and you think of the Beatles and millions of kids screaming as loud as they can and running as fast as they can towards the Beatles, there's no one who is that kind of lightning rod, who commands that kind of power and has that kind of creative magma.”

Black penned the track ‘Rock is Dead’ on their new album ‘Rize of the Fenix’ due to the low number of huge rock bans at the moment, which ‘drives kids insane’.

The singer and actor also reveals his is a huge fan of singer Jack White, "Whatever he does is worth checking out - and his archnemesis, the Black Keys, are also tremendous," he says. As well as, "The Foo Fighters. I loves me some Foos. But [rock music] does get thin after that."

Currently streaming their new album online in full, the follow up to 2006’s ‘The Pick Of Destiny’, the official release of ‘The Rize of the Fenix’ will be available on May14.
