Robert Downey Jr is set to earn a reported $50m from Avengers: Assemble after negotiating a deal that entitles him to a cut of the movie's profits.

It is reported that Downey Jr, who plays Iron Man in the box office smash, negotiated the deal after the initial success of his first movie as Iron Man in 2008. The figure is disputed but it is believed that the actors contract states that he will make around 5% of all money made on films featuring the character.

With Avengers: Assemble having already made over $1billion at the box office it is easy to see where the huge figure has come from.

To put this in context, Downey Jr's Avengers co-stars made around $6m (Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johannson) and $3m (Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo Chris Hemsworth) each for their work on the film.

A sequel to the Avengers movie has already been confirmed by Marvel/ Disney.
