Friendly Fires have spoken about their experiences of being bottled in Scotland during their early touring days.
The band played at V Festival in Essex this weekend, where Cher Lloyd was left in tears after a bottle of urine was thrown at her onstage.
But although frontman Ed Macfarlane told Gigwise that he normally found audiences north of the border harder to please, the band had never had urine hurled at them.
"I think it’s pretty par for the course up in Scotland - it’s pretty standard to be hailed with hot lager," he said.
"Nothing horrible though – no urine, faeces or rotten fruit."
The singer said that the band used to play club nights in the early hours of the morning when they first started touring, but that by this time audiences had often had a lot to drink.
"At most club nights, the last thing you want is a band showing up when you want to keep dancing to non-stop music, so we’ve had certain things thrown at us in the past," he said.
"It can fuck up your equipment, that’s when it goes really annoying – when your lovely Pedalboard gets coated in alcohol and stops working, it’s “Come on guys, fun’s over now… er, we can’t play the gig,” he joked.
"People throw glow sticks a lot, which I just don’t like anyway," he added. "Someone threw a t-shirt at me once, which got tangled up in my arms, that was a set back."
A whole host of music stars, including Professor Green and The Script's Danny O'Donoghue, have hit out at the treatment of Cher Lloyd at V Festival last weekend.
Tulisa also criticised the incident with Lloyd, likening it to 'adult bullying'.
Friendly Fires are currently in the studio working on a remix to the AlunaGeorge track 'Your Love, Your Drums', which is set for release in September.
The band are also set to play Bestival on the Isle of Wight on 6-9 September, which organiser Rob Da Bank said he would quit if crowds started throwing urine at performers.
