Hilco, the restructuring firm who bought HMV's debt, are aiming to try and keep up to half of HMV's 223 stores open.

This could be helped by the fact that, according to The Daily Mail, record labels are considering allowing HMV to buy CDs and DVDs in instalments over an extended period of time.

Labels such as Universal, Warner and Sony want to help HMV survive as they're an alternative to online retailers and digital downloads.

Hilco is apparently also in talks with Jessops to discuss the potential of Jessops opening camera concessions in HMV stores.

Hilco is thought to have paid £40m for £120m of HMV's debt last week, although theirs was not the highest bid made.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, the leaders of HMV's eight bank syndicate had receieved higher offers but turned them down as they were from vulture firms.

The banks did not want to ruin their reputations by selling to asset strippers, as opposed to a restructuring specialist.

Hilco could save over 100 of HMV's stores in a new deal

HMV went into administration earlier this month, which put more than 4,000 jobs at risk.

Ironically, former boss Simon Fox said when leaving in August, "I am proud to be leaving HMV with a profitable future secured."
