According to The Sun, Arctic Monkeys have been signed up to headline Glastonbury festival this year.

The paper claims that the Sheffield band are set to play the Friday slot, with the other headliners including the Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons.

A source told The Sun, "There's still a way to go until the festival so anything could happen but the Arctic Monkeys have been given the Friday slot.

"Festival bosses know that they're a good group to get the crowd going."

Arctic Monkeys previously played the festival five years ago in 2007, but Alex Turner recently said that he wasn't happy with the way the set turned out.

The frontman said, "There's a lot left, yeah. I'd really like another shot at headlining Glastonbury. I don't think we got that quite right when we did it in 2007."

Rihanna is another star who is rumoured to be headlining the legendary festival.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday, "She is the perfect choice. Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason Rihanna can’t do the same.

"She’s got a huge back catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.”

Arctic Monkeys are already playing Benicassim and could also appear at Glastonbury

Back in 2011 Rihanna said she would love to perform at the event, saying, “I’d love to play Glastonbury. I have heard so many things about what happens there. I love rock music. I love Kings Of Leon and The Prodigy.

“The music is awesome. I like the more traditional rock bands, too: Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. I think I could rock the stage at Glastonbury, no question.”

Glastonbury rumours: who might actually perform in 2013?
