The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have said that it gets harder being a band when middle-aged - as they don't want to repeat themselves.

The band are preparing to release their fourth studio album Mosquito, and are trying to create something new instead of falling back on their older sounds.

Speaking to Xfm's John Hillcock, guitarist Nick Zinner said, "I do think it's harder being like 'a middle aged band' or whatever just because we don't want to repeat ourselves and want to always do something new and fresh.

"Sometimes it is easier to fall back on comfortable patterns or whatever but we're trying to make new things."

He added, "When you are starting out - at least for us - things have a tendency to be more innocent and you don't over thing things so much."

The band recently posted a sign at one of their concerts asking fans to refrain from recording their performance on their cameras or smart phones.

Spin magazine posted a photo of the sign, which stated, "PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THE SHOW THROUGH A SCREEN ON YOUR SMART DEVICE/CAMERA.

"PUT THAT S**T AWAY as a courtesy to the person behind you and to Nick, Karen and Brian. MUCH LOVE AND MANY THANKS! YEAH YEAH YEAHS."
