Daft Punk have hit out at the current state of electronic dance music, saying it has "an identity crisis."
In an interview with Rolling Stone, member Thomas Bangalter said that EDM "is in its comfort zone." And that "It's not moving one inch."
Bangalter added: "Today electronic music is made in airports and hotel rooms, by DJs travelling. It has a sense of movement, maybe, but it's not the same vibe as going into these studios that contain specific things."
The new record sees the French duo working with Pharrell Williams and The Strokes' Julian Casablancas among others. According to the pair, early production was not easy going, stating: "There was a sense of searching for a record we hadn't done." But they reached a creative breakthrough after treating live musicians as machines, adding that they started: "(recreating) what we used to do with machines and samplers, but with people. We tried to make robotic voices sound the most human they've ever sounded."
