Benicassim organisers have posted an update on the status of the 2013 festival, after rumours circulated in Spanish press that the festival was set to cancel its 2013 event.
After a Facebook update denying any plans to call off the event, part-owner Vince Power has issued a full statement, announcing the sale of the major shareholding in Benicassim to Denis Desmond and SJM Concerts. The festival will go ahead on 18-21 July as planned, with Power blaming the economic struggles for his decision to sell the major stakehold share in the festival.
"The difficult economic climate coupled with the bad year suffered by Music Festivals PLC has prompted my decision to sell a major shareholding in Benicàssim festival," says Power in a statement. "I am pleased that 2 of Europe’s best known Festival Promoters are now taking part. FIB is one of the world’s most established and best-loved live music events and I wanted to ensure the future of the festival for many years to come.
"I am pleased we have found great partners to take Benicàssim forward to its next phase and to guarantee it is secure and solid for the fans, this year and every year. Next year Benicàssim celebrates its 20th anniversary and I look forward to many more memorable festivals in years to come."
The Killers, Queens of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Primal Scream and Beady Eye, with Kaiser Chiefs, Dizzee Rascal, The Courteeners, Hurts, Deap Vally, Jake Bugg and Azealia Banks will perform at Benicassim 2013, among other acts.
