Talking to Gigwise backstage at their Samsung Galaxy Studio Live gig in Guildford, the band said that while they weren't planning to release the follow-up to this year's Opposites anytime soon, but they all agreed that a fresh approach to the songwriting was required.
"We're not actively trying to put an album together right now," said drummer Ben Johnston, "we did just release a double album not that long ago and a lot of the world haven't heard it live yet so we're kind of foccussing on that."
However alluding to new material bassist James said that there was a consensus to take their material to sonically different areas. "We'd like to take a bit of a step to the side, just try things a little bit differently you know," he said, "we're proud of everything we've done up until now. It kind of feels like with this band things come in threes, we did the first three albums and they kind of fit together."
Ellaborating, he continued: "Maybe that's the way we write songs, maybe that's the way we record and perform - we're not too sure. I think we'll still retain the Biffy sound but we'd like to try something different that's for sure."
