Dizzee Rascal has been forced to make an apology on Twitter after a joke at the MTV EMAs last night in which he jokingly announced Justin Bieber as the winner of the Biggest Fanbase award.

The real winners were quickly announced, as Dizzee quickly followed up his joke by saying: "Just kidding, it's Tokio Hotel." The seemingly harmless prank was taken very badly by some of the Beliebers, who have never been known for their rational approach to anything less than positive relating to their pop icon.

One fan, named Annalliese Allan, called Dizzee an 'asshole' and others have taken to Twitter so show similar unhappiness at the joke. Twitter user @BieberBroccoli took it particulary badly, as you can see below.

Dizzee later apologised on the same site, probably hoping that any mutual fans he shares with Bieber won't abandon him after the prank. The rapper had a very public spat with the BBC recently when his single didn't make the playlist for BBC Radio 1.

It's hard to think of a time such a minor joke has caused such offence, but then these are Justin Bieber fans we're taking about so that may explain the level of ire being expressed here.
