Former guitarist Richie Sambora has talked for the first time of the reasons behind his split with Bon Jovi.

Back in August it was rumoured that the guitarist had been dismissed from the band, with talk of a rift between he and Jon Bon Jovi rife. These were all denied, but up until now the reasons for the guitarist's departure have been shrowded in mystery.

Speaking to Billboard, Sambora says the reasons are perfectly innocent and domestic in nature, revealing "I just started spending time with my kid between [tour] legs, and my spirit wouldn’t pull myself out the door. I just needed to be home".

The very sudden nature of his departure got tongues wagging, and Sambora has confirmed that this was a decision made almost on the spot, with no thought given to it even during the early live shows, explaining "Honestly, I went out for the first leg of the tour, I had no idea this was going to happen"

Although he is currently taking time out for his family, the long-time guitarist hopes to return to the band in the future, saying "I think so, yeah, I'm pretty sure "I don't think it’s going to be the end of the band or anything like that."
