UK synth stars Hurts have scored their first ever UK No.1 single with their new Calvin Harris and Alesso collaboration, 'Under Control'.

The dance anthem has toppled Lily Allen from the top spot, after one week at No.1 with her John Lewis Christmas advert song, 'Somewhere Only We Know', a cover of Keane's MOR indie classic. The chart topper marks the biggest hit of Hurts' career, their previous peak being their No.21 single 'Wonderful Life' in 2010. It is Calvin Harris' third UK chart topper (not excluding production duties on other artists' work), following 'I'm Not Alone' in 2009 and 'Sweet Nothing' in 2012.

In the singles chart, McFly enter at No.6 with their new single 'Love Is On The Radio', and Breach scores a new hit with his club anthem, 'Everything You NEver Had (We Had It All)' at No.9. Afrojack enters at No.17 with new track 'The Spark' and One Direction enter at No.19 with 'You & I' and at No.21 with 'Don't Forget Where You Belong'. Justin Bieber enters at No.37 with his new single, 'Roller Coaster'.

On the albums chart, One Direction score the fastest selling album of 2013, and the fastest of their career, to top the chart with new album Midnight Memories, beating Gary Barlow's Since I Last Saw You, which is new at No.2. Boyzone enter at No.6 with BZ20 and Susan Boyle scores a festive album hit with Home For Christmas, which is new at No.9. Dido's Greatest Hits enters at No.27 and Mary J Blige's festive collection A Mary Christmas (do you see what she did there?).
