Danny Brown sparked fears for his health on Monday (February 10) after posting a series of seemingly suicidal tweets.
The Detroit rapper called out "fake" friends, decried his peers for not taking him seriously and even, most worryingly, threatened to kill himself.
"I can't sleep my anxiety is at an all time high but don't none of y'all care about that s**t .. Y'all just want me to be goofy and make a damn fool out of myself...Y'all don't give a f**k about me...
"F**k u if u was supposed to be my rapper friend and I gotta call ya assistant just to get in touch wit u... F**k all this rap s**t it's fake... N**gas pretend homies not one of these n**gas a come to my funeral...F**k u if u tried to do a song with me just to steal my fan base..."
"Depression is serious y'all think I do drugs cause it's fun... Nobody cares if I live or die .. That's the bottom line .. Y'all want me to overdose just don't be surprised when u get what u asked for... Maybe if I die I'd get the props I deserved yo u know..."
"I mean shit...all the rappers I look up to think I suck or I think I'm a weirdo or some shit...My favourite rapper is Nas...all I want more than anything is to hear him tell me "I'm dope" but nah he likes Big Sean and Tyler the Creator."
Brown, who released third album Old to widespread critical acclaim in 2013, then revealed rapper Childish Gambino was the only one of his peers to text him after his tweets. Brown has since deleted his posts, but continues to retweet messages of support from fans.
