It seems Russia's notoriously discriminatory stance on LGBT rights has affected their chance of Eurovision glory - their act, The Tolmachevy Sisters, were booed as they reached the finals last night (May 6).

Anastasia and Maria Tolmacheva, who are just 17, earned a place the semi-final with their track 'Shine', which initially seemed to receive a positive reaction from the audience. However, the sisters were booed as it was announced they had qualified for the final.

Watch the Tolmachevy Sisters perform 'Shine' below:

The twins previously won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, but it seems this time success may elude them. The audience's frosty reception is more than likely in response to Russia's continuing intolerance of their LGBT community.

Meanwhile, the UK's entry, Molly Smitten-Downes, will perform her track 'Children of the Universe' on Saturday May 10 for a place in the final.
