Scottish newcomers Paws have hit out at Morrissey, accusing him of demanding they cancel a gig in the same venue as him, as he did not want other artists performing in his vicinity.
The band were due to perform at California venue The Observatory on 8 May, 2014 alongside We Are Scientists - where Morrissey was also set to perform a headline show. However, in a Facebook post from the band, Paws hit out at the 'power hungry' Smiths star, slamming his 'disregard for others' and calling him nothing less than 'disgusting garbage'. The band have since deleted their statement about the star, but not before publication the Brooklyn Vegan had copied the outburst, word for word. See the statement below.
"Morrissey is currently trying to have our slot at tonights show in Santa Ana, California cancelled because he is playing in another room in the same venue and wishes for their to be no other artists performing in his vicinity.
"This is an unbelievable act of complete and utter selfishness that should not be tolerated. This rich, has-been, ego maniac acting like a baby throwing toys from a pram. To satisfy his little power hungry brain. A complete disregard for others and a baffling lack of support/respect for young, hard working musicians.
"People like this, with attitudes like this displays a classic example of why the music industry is still awash with disgusting garbage that should by now have been snuffed out. Pedestals, self righteous entitlement, disrespect and "competition". Geez. It's not like we’ve come all the way from Scotland to play for nothin'..."
Morrissey has previously refused to play in venues where meat is cooked or consumed, but this is the first time he has caused uproar over performing close to other musicians.
