Rising duo Royal Blood have spoken out about Trent Reznor's comments about 'rock being stale' - agreeing with the Nine Inch Nails frontman and adding that there needs to be more of it in the mainstream.

Last week, Reznor made headlines when he said that rock music has become 'stale' - blaming the way bands attempt to model themselves in order to get good reviews from cool publications and also stated that there is clearly a problem when there is more excitement surrounding dance music.
"When you see a lot more excitement generated from the dance tent, I do think a staleness has permeated [rock music]," Reznor told the Daily Record. "A pretty conservative nature has crept into music, and I don't mean sonically."
Now, speaking to Gigwise ahead of their brilliant performance at The Great Escape festival, Royal Blood frontman Mike Kerr replied to Reznor's comments: "Yeah, you're probably right. I mean, with our band we found out that what we were doing didn't fit in.
"Everything on the radio and all of the music that was coming out was not riff-based rock, so we were surprised when we had interest from the music industry and we're still surprised that we're even on the radio to be honest with you. We thought we were a bit too heavy for that, but we see what he's saying."
Meanwhile, Royal Blood will be supporting Arctic Monkeys at their upcoming Finsbury Park gigs in London on 23 and 24 May, and have been confirmed for Glastonbury as well as Reading and Leeds festival this summer. For more information visit Gigwise tickets.
