The 1975's frontman Matt Healy has revealed how his mum believed he had died from a drug overdose, after Twitter rumours spread across social media.

The 'Chocolate' star has spoken openly about his substance abuse in the past, telling The Guardian in November 2013 that he was 'a coke addict, big time', adding that he 'dabbled in everything' when he was a teenager. Now, in a new interview with Bang Showbiz, Healy has revealed how his TV presenter mum (Denise Welch of Loose Women) was left in tears thinking he was dead.

"Someone said I had an overdose in my flat, who's making that shit up? I didn't. I was on a plane to America," he told the celebrity website. "My mum rang me in tears. She thought I was dead for six hours. That's not cool at all. That is the shit I don't like [about fame]."

Speaking more about the pressures of fame, he also added that rumours and gossip have proven a downside to his newfound fame, after The 1975 became one of the biggest new bands in the UK in 2013, scoring a No.1 album with their debut, self-titled release.

"There have been loads of rumours. That I slept with Rashida Jones, Quincy Jones' daughter, I didn't sleep with her. I wish I had. She's wife material."

"I don't really like it on a personal level. I don't like being so exposed and having things that I don't think about being topics of conversation for other people," Healy added. "I don't like the fact that every time I get out of a car I have a fucking camera in my face."

"But, then again, I don't resent the element of fame that's marred my life because it's amplified the way I am as a writer. I kind of understand it, it makes me a better writer. But I don't want to be famous famous, I can't be arsed with that."
