If you ever wanted to observe the death of the vinyl, the rise and fall of the cassette and the CD, and the rise and rise of online downloads in 30 seconds, now's your chance.
Digital Music News have put together a 20 second GIF which features a pie chart showing how music has been purchased from 1983 - 2013.
The animation begins with 47.8% of music purchased on cassette, 44.6% on LP/EP, 7.1% on vinyl single, and just 0.5% on CD.
As the GIF progresses, CD swallows up the sales of every other musical format, with 95.5% of 2003 sales CDs. After that though, online downloads begin to creep in, and by 2013, CD sales are down to 30.4%.
It's a fascinating animation, and also reveals a slight resurgence in vinyl sales - from 0.1% in 2006 to 3% in 2013. Also, poor cassettes. They never had a chance.
