"instrumentally immaculate and vocally faultless..."

With yet more true-life stories being told in soul format, the incredible voice of Lyfe Jennings returns once again to enlighten our ears and touch our hearts. With one of 2004’s greatest records under his belt, the ex-con-turned-inspirational-entertainer has created another flawless project that can’t be touched within a million mile radius.

Records like 'Ghetto Superman' and 'Biggie Nigga' revisit the singer’s street persona, while joints such as 'I’ll Always Love You' and 'More Than A Girl' explore his emotionally remarkable personality. Musically there’s no way that this man can be faulted. Carefully selecting a talented few to feature alongside him, Lyfe Jennings struck gold when he hired the Three-6-Mafia boys to jump on a track. The record in question is the string-heavy 'Still Here'. Combined with Jennings’ own production, DJ Paul, Juicy J and Project Pat have never sounded so comfortable on another person’s production. It’s a joy to hear. Not one to shy away from clever wordplay either, Jennings puts down some seriously smooth lyrics on the alluring “Stingy”, and with lines like, “See I’m jealous of your clothes/ ‘Cause they touch you more than I do,” who can disagree.

Every song featured on this 15-cut project (without skits) could be listed as a stand out track, but ones to really look out for (without the inclusion of those already mentioned) are the educational 'S.E.X.', 2Pac cover 'Keep Ya Head Up', and the stroll down memory lane that is 'Radio'. 'The Phoenix' is instrumentally immaculate and vocally faultless.
