Kasier Chiefs drummer and songwriter Nick Hodgson has revealed that he would recording their new album difficult due to his father's battle with Alzheimer’s.
The group surprised fans by releasing 'The Future Is Medieval' earlier this month.
Unlike traditional releases, it enabled fans to compile their own album, create their own artwork and then sell their creation to friends.
In an exclusive interview with Gigwise, Hodgson admitted his father's illness had influenced the album's darker sound.
“Obviously, that changes things because, music just feels irrelevant and becomes sort of peripheral,” he said.
“A year ago I wasn’t even really thinking about music much at all. I was messing about in my studio, but I wasn’t particularly focused. If your heads not there, your heads not there.
“When you do write you can’t help but write from the mindset you’re in at the time.”
'The Future Is Medieval' is released officially on June 27. Read Gigwise's full Kaiser Chiefs interview now.
