For some, the star was the Caped Crusaders. For others, it was the Batmoble. Others still would insist the set - including a 100 foot wide Bat-shaped video screen, took everyone's breath away.

But last night, one of the most unpredictable stage shows imaginable opened at the Manchester Evening News Arena - Batman Live had it's world premiere in front of twenty thousand screaming, adoring Bat Fans, both young and old.

Featuring Batman and Robin, and villains The Penguin, Joker and Poison Ivy, the stage show bares more similarity to the DC comics and Tim Burton films than it does to Christopher Nolan's current trilogy, which seemed to be in keeping with set pieces such as flying trapeeze acts preceding the deaths of both Batman and Robin's fathers.

Batman Live plays in Manchester until July 24, when it will embark on a tour of the UK and Ireland.
