Paul Weller: In 2008, our Prime Minister was all "Me and my posh mates used to totally dig listening to 'Eton Rifles' because we WENT to Eton! LOLZ." Weller wasn't impressed, responding the famous 1979 song he recorded as frontman of The Jam "wasnt intended as a f**king jolly drinking song for the cadet corps."
Keane: Cameron used the band's track 'Everybody's Changing' at one of his campaign rallies, and the East Sussex quartet were uncharacteristically pissed off. Well, pissed off in a Keane sort of way, which meant drummer Richard Hughes said rather reasonably "it would just be polite to check the band wouldnt mind being associated with the party", and that he was "horrified" by the whole shebang.
Radiohead: During his stint on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, Cameron selected the band's melancholy 'Fake Plastic Trees' as one of his favourite tracks. Thom Yorke responded by saying the Prime Minister would be hit with a lawsuit if he dared used one of their tracks in his campaign - but admitted "I can't say I like the idea - but I also equally think, who cares?"
The Housemartins: After Cameron referenced the 1980s band whilst making a speech congratulating Hull on their City of Culture accolade, saying: "I remember, some years ago that great Housemartins' album which was London 0, Hull 4", frontman Paul Heaton slammed the PM on Twitter, and announced he had banned the PM and George Osbourne from his Salford pub. HARSH.
The Smiths: We almost felt sorry for Cameron when after choosing Morrissey and co's hit 'This Charming Man' as a favourite during his Desert Island Discs appearance, guitarist Johnny Marr took to Twitter to literally FORBID Cameron from liking the band . Almost felt sorry for him, but not quite.
Eminem: We are 99.9% sure this was a "look how down with the kids I am" ruse, but wife Samantha 'revealed' at the Glamour magazine awards in 2009 that Big Dave is a fan of the rapper. We bet he mimes along to 'Lose Yourself' in the mirror every morning to psyche himself up.
So who doesn't Cameron approve of? Well, we can tell you now that he doesn't like Bruno Mars, Katy Perry (both "appalling" - fair enough) or Lily Allen ("unsuitable"). Bad luck guys.
Alt-J: One of the Prime Minister's aides revealed he was a fan of the indie band, and even said he had known about them BEFORE they had won the Mercury Prize! Oh Dave, you're just too cool. The Southampton band themselves did not comment, but their spokesperson managed to splutter something about not being able to imagine Cameron "rocking out to Alt-J". Us neither, and we don't want to.
Jake Bugg and Laura Mvula: For some reason, Cameron made a little playlist on a USB stick for all the leaders who came to this year's G8 Summit. For some reason, Bugg and Mvula reportedly featured on said playlist.
Bruce Springsteen: Cameron reminisced to The Daily Mail earlier this year about his days as queuing for hours in France to see The Boss in concert. Rock and indeed, roll. He also admitted wife Samantha hates Springsteen, so he can only listen to "a little bit of Dancing in the Dark or something like that, or, Born in the USA" when she's not around. Poor old Dave.
Mumford & Sons: To little surprise from anybody, Cameron revealed he was a fan of the waistcoated banjo fans and had even got them on a bill to play at a White House reception in 2012, telling US President Barack Obama they were "a small band I'm quite keen on and my wife's quite keen on". Smarm.
