Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks has advised Katy Perry not to allow the internet to pit women against each other, telling her "You don't have any rivals."
Nicks spoke to ABC News of a three hour sit-down she had with Perry in London in 2013. "She said to me 'So when you did Bella Donna, who were your rivals?' And I was, like, speechless" said Nicks. "I was like 'I didn't have any rivals.'"
According to Nicks, Perry responded by insisting that it was not her but the internet who thinks like this, to which the Fleetwood Mac veteran had some more sage advice. "I said to her, 'Katy, let me tell you something. You don't have any rivals. So forget that. Never say that word again. You don't have rivals. All of those girls? Friends. You'll probably work with all of them at some point. Friends."
Soon after this, Perry got another surprise when Nicks dedicated 'Landslide' to her and boyfriend John Mayer at a Fleetwood Mac gig.
John here. Katy can't write because she's getting over Stevie Nicks dedicating Landslide to us at the Fleetwood Mac concert. Unforgettable.

Perry appears to have taken her new friend's advice to heart, telling Entertainment Weekly recently that "You can't look at [music] like a competition because you ruin the reason why you love music."
Perry had been in London to perform at the iTunes Festival, and Nicks to continue Fleetwood Mac's tour at the O2 Arena.
