Our picks of the greatest film songs of all time

34 years ago today (26 April), Blondie reached No.1 in the UK singles chart with 'Call Me', which they wrote for American Gigolo. Giorgio Moroder really wanted Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks to pen the film's opener, but when she declined, he turned to Debbie Harry. Over a quarter of a century later, Richard Gere's American Gigolo remains obliquely in the movie buff's consciousness, but its theme song is nothing short of iconic. And to think, it would never have happened if Stevie Nicks wasn't so damn busy.
Inspired by the happy accident that is 'Call Me', we've picked 50 of the greatest original movie songs. Not all of the films in this list are brilliant - in fact, some are positively terrible (we're not naming any names, We Bought A Zoo) - but every single song we've picked makes the films worth watching a hundred times over.
