Katy Perry: This rider does not paint Perry or her management in a great light. Chauffeurs and wheelman are not allowed to "start a conversation" with Perry, or ask for an autograph or photo. It also, unforgivably, says that the venue might be asked to hold back tickets, so that they can provide them to re-sellers for "distribution on the secondary market."
Lady Gaga: Gaga would like a plate of cheese ("non-smelly, non-sweaty", which makes us feel a bit sick), dried mangoes, veggie dogs that can be eaten with tooth picks, assorted meats, guacamole and four Coke zeros.
Adele: Any guest at Adele's show is asked to make a minimum donation to charity of $20, which is donated towards SANDS. In her dressing room, she asks for gum, a packet of cigarettes and assorted sandwiches (which must NOT contain tomatoes, vinegar, chilli or citrus fruit). We're not sure what sandwiches would contain citrus fruit, but better safe than sorry.
Eminem: There's no alcohol on Eminem's rider, but there is Swiss cheese, Muenster cheese, mild Chedder, Kraft American cheese, banana pepper rings, Gundelsheim pickles and tooth picks. Yes, more cheese.
50 Cent: There are a lot of food requests on 50 Cent's rider, but no beef or pork is allowed in the vicinity of 50 Cent's dressing room. Strangely though, he specifies a need for "beef bacon" earlier on. He also asks for two whole boxes of condoms, and, in capitals, SHRIMP MUST BE KEPT ON ICE.
The Beatles: In the Beatles' rider, which is from 1965, the band specify that they will not perform before a "segregated audience." On a lighter note, they also require two Cadillac limousines, air-conditioned if possible. Only if possible, they wouldn't want to put anyone out.
Iggy and the Stooges: Iggy Pop's rider is written as a stream of consciousness, and weaves real demands in with many jokes. "We need one monitor man who speaks good English and is not afraid of death. (Only joking... or am I?)" he writes. For food, "local cusine is acceptable or steak/chicken, endangered species, snake, whale or nurse shark."
Coldplay: They'd like a variety of alcohols, but "NOT STELLA AND NOT U.S. BEERS", socks, a bunch of flowers and 8 stamped, local postcards, which is kind of lovely.
Red Hot Chili Peppers: RHCP would like a meditation room with all walls pipe and draped in a dark colour (preferably not blue). They also request 2 aromotherapy candles, 1 pair of cotton boxer shorts. a small bowls of whole, pitted dates, figs and raw unsalted cashewsaAnd, yes, another cheese tray. What is it with musicians and cheese?
The Killers: The Killers' rider resembles that of an over-excited group of teenagers - Jaffa Cakes, lots of cheese, nutella, 10 candy bars and assorted alcohols. Rock'n'Roll.
Foo Fighters: "Please have signs visibly posted from crew entrance prior to our arrival. Fat roadies have to eat immediately so they can begin their arduous 70 to 90 minute workday."
Bjork: Her backstage area must be big enough for 30 people, furnished with ample seating and soft lighting, and "efforts to create a homely atmosphere are highly appreciated." The rider also asks that a masseuse, acupuncturist and reflexologist are available for sessions, adding: "This is very important to her." For dinner, she asks for a selection of french cheeses, including (in bold) GOAT'S CHEESE and GOAT BRIE.
