From Muse to Arctic Monkeys, don't be had

1 April: April Fools' Day is here again, urging legions of 'wacky' characters to trick and troll their friends and colleagues with hilarious japes until 12pm strikes. Well, the world of music is no different - and even less convincing.

Who'd like to see Arctic Monkeys release an album today? What about Kim Kardashian (featuring Bjork)? Or a Muse collaboration with Zayn Malik? The xx being sued by makers of hardcore porn? Well, fear not - it was all a 'joke'.

These are the seven best April Fools' from music in 2015.

  • Matt Bellamy to collaborate with Zayn Malik: This one, courtesy of Muse fansite Muse Drones, trolled fans by claiming that the Supermassive space-rocker would be helping the recently departed One Direction member to launch his solo career. It wouldn't be the most insane thing Bellamy's recorded, to be fair.

  • The xx forced to change name to YY after porn lawsuit: This morning, blog It's All Indie reported: "The reason behind this is a lawsuit from an 'adult movie' organisation who have put forward a claim that they've been using the name 'The XX' for their DVD releases and have a rather big following in the adult entertainment world. "

  • Tool troll their own fans with new music: Taking to Facebook this morning, the industrial metal heroes tormented their fans' seemingly never-ending wait for a new album - posting a clip of leaked new music and writing: "This music leak is unsettling on many levels. First off, it truly sucks to have your unfinished music available on the interweb without your consent. And second, to have it immediately picked up by someone and released as their own work is infuriating. We don't encourage anyone to listen to this leaked clip because it's far from finished and it will spoil what's to come. But if you absolutely must, then listen to both clips. These are practically identical. It's a clear cut case of copyright infringement and plagiarism."

  • Arctic Monkeys to release new album today: Another cruel blow from It's All Indie, who stated that at 11.59am (just before the April Fool's cut-off), Alex Turner would drop new LP One More Time - made up of songs recorded in Saffron Walden, Porth, Jersey, NYC and Austin in TX - including future smash hits 'Shoreditch House', 'Jokers', 'Hinting Towards You'. Hilarious...

  • Kim Kardashian announces album: The good people at The 405 revealed that the other half of Kimye would drop new album K on 5 May - featuring special guests Sir Paul McCartney, Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX, Jay Z, Beyoncé, Sam Smith and of course, Kanye West...not to mention Bjork. Some of our favourite moments from the tracklist include 'All Day II', 'Special K', 'That Ass' (feat. Paul McCartney), 'Family Portrait' (feat. North West) and 'Family Business II' (feat. Jay Z, Beyonce, Kanye / Prod. Bjork).

  • Jeremy Clarkson to join Genesis? It makes perfect dad-rock sense, as It's All Indie (who outdid/overdid it today) wrote: "Genesis have a brand new cover band, and it's fronted by the former host of BBC's Top Gear. As an avid drummer he has put together a band and will be performing a show in a secret location in London, some say he sucks the moisture out of drum sticks, others say Genesis want him as a full time member."

  • Oasis reunite to play Swindon: The Swindon Advertister, the paper of the town where the band were named after a local leisure centre, stated that the Gallagher brothers would bury the hatchet to play there - quoting one local music producer who said: "A mate of a mate of a mate told me he (frontman Liam Gallagher) loves Swindon and doesn't stop talking about the food at Eggelicious."
