Hyperactive and peppy, Pull Tiger Tail’s latest offering bounds around like an excited child. 'Let’s Lightning' is the band’s first offering of 2007, a year in which they’ve been tipped by almost every music publication around to break through into the mainstream. It’s easy to see why success has been predicted, as though there’s several changes of direction the overall path remains the same throughout: a chirpy, catchy hook driven piece of wonky pop. The cheerfulness of the melody ensures it’ll rattle around in your mind for some time, the odd sudden shift meaning that it’s difficult to get bored with it.
Marcus Ratcliff’s vocals fit the song well, a rather nervy edge to them that ties with some frantic guitar passages. However there’s a bit of a whine that could see some people taking a dislike to him. There’s also a few dodgy lyrics, the well worn cliché of “This town ain’t big enough for me” being rolled out alongside the dubious opening of “I’m addicted to electric pulses”. Luckily, there’s gallons of charm coursing throughout that make the track hard to dislike and should see it become an indie club fixture for months on end.
